International Travellers

By Air

Nearest airports:

  • Manchester International – 20 minutes
  • Liverpool – 1 hour
  • Leeds/Bradford – 1 hour & 15 minutes

The nearest airport to the venue is Manchester International, which is well served by all the major airlines, including budget airlines Ryan Air and Jet2. From the airport, trains to the city centre run every 15 minutes into Piccadilly train station; the average journey time is 20 minutes. Piccadilly train station is a 5 minute taxi journey or tram journey to the venue.  Alternatively you can jump into a taxi from the airport direct to the venue, which costs less than £20.

UK Travellers

GBSEx recommends that you take the train to Manchester.  Parking is limited and can be expensive unless you are using one of the hotels offering a deal. Once here, the venue, all hotels and the vibrant city centre are all on your doorstep and easily walked.... plus you get to sleep on the train home!

By Car

Manchester is positioned in the middle of the UK and so is very well-connected by motorway and road networks. The M6 links Manchester to Birmingham and London in the South, and Lancaster in the North, the M62 east to Leeds and west to Liverpool, the M56 to Chester, the M61 to Bolton and Preston, the M66 to Bury and the M67 out towards Sheffield.

Parking

Parking is often difficult around the Town Hall. You may be able to find a space in one of the ‘Pay and Display’ parking bays.  Alternatively, there are a number of car parks in the city centre operated by NCP (NCP Queen Street M2 5JB is probably the closest).

The cheapest form of transport into Manchester from outside the city is likely to be the coach service. National Express offers many services, which arrive into Chorlton Street Coach Station in the city centre.  The coach station is a 15 minute walk from the Town Hall.
